Sterling, IL (May 5, 2017) – Every year, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the diverse ways America's 3.1 million registered nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. The American Nurses Association has designated 2017 as the "Year of the Healthy Nurse." This year’s theme for National Nurses Week is “Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit.” It’s all about celebrating nurses who lead the charge for health and wellness.
Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. It was officially designated in 1974 but original celebrations related to nurses day date back to 1954, celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s mission to Crimea.
During this week, nursing staff at CGH Medical Center and all 16 clinic locations receives a special gift of thanks. This year local businesses have offered to participate as well and will be honoring nurses through special gifts and recognition.

CGH Medical Center employs over 600 nurses ranging from certified nurses aides to nurse practitioners with a variety of educational backgrounds and specialty certifications, including nurses who are working on the doctorate in nursing practice. The years of experience range from new graduates to 40+ years of experience.
